The defense is not his only strength; in fact, it's his extremely high offensive power that requires MED and SEN all over the Paradigms list. One of his attacks Wicked Whirl is so strong that you can survive only if you have enough HP and you deploy three SEN at once to get the highest possible defensive bonus for everyone.
Towards the end of the fight he will use this attack very frequently at least once between his "recovery pauses" , which means that any attempt of attacking him instead of healing as much as possible can result in a game over. And if this happens, after all the effort and time it takes to knock away his 15,, HP plus the millions he recovers , you'll get frustrated really fast.
Since there is a way of succeeding much more easily, let's use it. Paradigms [1] and [2] will be used to cast Poison and, if possible, also other debuffs. In particular, Fang will use Dispel, and Snow will cast random debuffs including Poison. Dispel is very important, especially as the fight goes on, to reduce the attack of the boss who will cast Bravery and Faith on himself.
Aside from Dispel, the only crucial ailment is Poison. Therefore, unless your party is completely in critical condition, Poison should be recasted manually with a full queue, of course whenever it wears off. Deprotect is the only other ailment that might help. The difference in use between [1] and [2] is that [1] will be always be used for a turn after his "Impenetrable Aura" move so Fang can Dispel his buffs , while [2] should be used afterwards.
When the boss uses his "shield mode" the Impenetrable Aura move , take this time to heal and, when necessary, let Fang cast and renew Haste on everyone with [3]. The boss will dispel your statuses with "Putrescence"; although it may be tempting to switch to [3] to recast Haste when your HP are green, don't do it: it's much better to have a SEN with Paradigm [4] to distract the enemy, rather than having a SYN that keeps renewing Haste while the boss nags everyone and keeps dispelling it with Putrescence.
Note that while waiting for him to get out of his shell i. At this point, Auto-Battle will stupidly cast a single Cure spell, even if you're missing a few thousands of HP. Since this is a pretty bad waste of turns, it's best if you manually prepare a queue of Curasa, and cast them on whoever needs it most. The same should be done during the whole fight, actually. After the boss exits Impenetrabe Aura, greet him back with a full queue of Poison with Vanille. After the boss gains his third pair of wings, he will start using the Wicked Whirl attack.
Whatever you're doing doesn't matter anymore: when you see this attack, switch to [6] to reduce the damage. When the boss has lost more than half of his HP, he will frequently use Wicked Whirl immediately after he exits his Impenetrable Aura, and he will have more than two buffs on when he exits Impenetrable Aura.
This is a major problem: if you don't Dispel him right away, he will force you into a loop of healing, because you'll keep taking too much damage to even try to Dispel him afterwards. Therefore, when you see that he starts having more than two buffs, instead of queueing 5x Poison, queue 1x Dispel and 3x Poison or 2x Dispel and 1x Poison depending on how many buffs he has: if three, use one Dispel; if four, use two : this, combined with Fang's own two Dispels, will be enough to fully debuff him right away.
The "middle" HP of the boss 10M to 5M, give or take will go down a bit more slowly than the first ones, because the boss will enter Impenetrable Aura frequently, and his attacks may not give you a chance to cast Poison between one Impenetrable Aura and the next one. This is relatively normal, don't panic.
When his health goes severely down, he will use Impenetrable Aura much less frequently. Therefore, even if at first the situation may look stationary, or worse yet he may start to recover HP more quickly than losing them, keep at it and believe in your Paradigms -- things will turn the other way around, eventually.
You'll be spending most of the fight in Paradigms [5] and [4]. Paradigm [5] allows Fang to add up several hundreds thousands HP of damage. In other words, it's not just the extra HP of damage itself that matters, but also the fact that she'll give the boss that little extra push to reach the point where he will "decide" to use Impenetrable Aura far less frequently.
The fight will go on for more than 10 minutes, but the target time should be more than 20 minutes if you removed your weapons and you didn't boost stats with your Accessories. Therefore, five-stars rating is very possible, despite this defense-oriented approach.
There aren't really more offensive approaches anyway. If for some reason you failed to get five stars on your first try, I suggest you try again by reloading your last save -- chances are that you'll know the fight well enough to succeed on your second attempt.
Of course you can also decide to retry by restarting this mission: you just obtained the Gold Watch, which will make five-stars in this battle easier; unfortunately you'll have to return to Oerba to restart it.
Anyway, let's think positive -- hopefully you won't even have to make a choice, because you'll simply succeed on your first attempt. Exorcist Triumphed over undying lowerworld souls in seven fierce battles.
Now that you've obtained the Gold Watch and defeated the single most powerful enemy of the game, it's time to take on the so-called "Circle of Death". This is a group of Cie'th Stones that give somewhat difficult missions, but to be honest there's really just one that needs particular attention Beware that completing these missions will cause Adamantoise and Adamantortoises to be replaced by much stronger enemies, here in The Archylte Steppe.
Therefore, if you want to farm these enemies here especially if because of a not-so-complete Crystarium you are limited to farming Adamantortoises and you can't consistently farm Adamantoises , do it BEFORE you complete the quests from the Circle of Death.
Once they're all done, there's no turning back. There will still be an Adamantoise left in Eden for your farming emergencies. We mentioned all of this a few times earlier, so you should already know all of this.
Either way, you've been warned -- if you need to farm Gil I remind you that you'll need about 5,,,, Gil, the equivalent of 40x Platinum Ingots, for Treasure Hunter here in the Steppe, do it now.
Farming Trapezohedron and Dark Matter is faster against the "new" enemies that will replace Adamanto[rto]ise though, so if those are the items you need, don't waste time farming Gil to buy them in the shop, and complete the Circle of Death instead, so you can start farming them properly. Every kind of Magic-damage-reducing equipment should be equipped. Give 4x of them to Hope and Vanille; 3x to Fang. Fang's last Accessory slot will be used for Genji Glove.
If she has a Tier-3 weapon, you're good to go; if she only has a maxed-out Tier-2 weapon, she should still be fine, but you'll have to make sure to execute everything perfectly.
For this strategy it's important that Fang's weapon has Stagger Lock, and that the other characters' weapons do not have Stagger Lock. Mark: 2x Raktavija. Note: your targets are located up a hill in the Steppe; you'll need to ride a Chocobo to reach them.
These enemies hit tremendously hard with their Magic attacks, and this is a big problem, considering that they are also hard to Stagger, and hard to defeat in one Stagger. You should already know how these enemies work: they can use "zone" attacks, but also concentrate their offensive on a single character. They will debuff you and dispel their ailments once Staggered, which could be a problem for earning a five-stars rating. Luckly for us, the target time in this mission is broadly generous typically more than 10 minutes, even with good weapons and high stats , and therefore you should be able to play defensively and still snatch the five stars rating.
There are few possible methods that can net you a one-Stagger-kill, but the only method that will consistently work is the following video here. Then keep casting random buffs among which Faith, which helps with Auto-Cast while you wait for Fang to hit both enemies with Imperil and Slow. She will stupidly also inflict Pain "stupidly" because these enemies don't have physical attacks , but there's nothing you can do about it.
This phase will take a few turns; be patient. When both enemies have Imperil and Slow you know when they do because Fang will stop casting , play with [2] and [3] to Stagger one of them.
Whenever possible, [2] should be used; if your HP are not green, however, switch to [3]. As soon as one of them is Staggered, he will cast Dispelga under the name of "Multicast" on his next turn. Sometimes he will not use Dispelga right away, but only after a short while. This depends on when his last turn was, of course.
If his last attack was just a few seconds before you Staggered him, then it will take a while before he will use Dispelga. If his last attack occurred several seconds earlier, then he will use Dispelga right away. Wait until you see that the enemy you're about to Stagger uses Multicast; as soon as he does so, launch Hope's attacks to finally Stagger him -- now you are sure that the enemy won't use Dispelga for a little while a precious little while.
If you time it right launch the attack as soon as he uses Multicast you will also interrupt his Multicast attack, thus nicely dodging the damage. Note that it's possible that Imperil will wear off during the wait; don't worry, it doesn't matter. Also don't worry if it seems that you are waiting a lot: waiting now will save time later since you won't lose your buffs. The enemy is now Staggered, and can't act to Dispel you for a while thanks to Slow: take this opportunity to switch to [4] and let Vanille cast Deprotect on him.
Meanwhile, spam Last Resort with Hope to give a huge boost to the Chain gauge. When Deprotect connects probably on the first try , look at Fang's movement: when she is using the last attack of her current turn the triple hit combo , switch to [5] and keep spamming Last Resort.
If you did everything with good timing, the enemy will die before he has a turn, i. Last Resort will skyrocket the Chain gauge in three turns, and Fang's damage output will do the rest, taking almost a million of HP of damage in a single turn. If that's not the case and he manages to cast Dispelga Multicast , switch to [6]. Your goal in this Paradigm is to have Haste on everyone and Deprotect on the enemy.
Nothing more, nothing less. Haste on Vanille is optional: if the other two have Haste and the enemy has Deprotect, waste no more time and go back to [5] to finish him off. The second enemy will be defeated the same way as the first one, except that you'll need to heal less frequently.
Let's finish the "circle" now. Most of the next missions are very strict on target time, so make sure to have the Gold Watch equipped, and don't forget to save before attempting them. The next one we'll do is the Cie'th Stone in the middle of the two that you already completed. Reset your classic party Fang, Lightning, Hope and Paradigms.
Target Location: Oerba - Village Proper. Reward: Royal Armlet. Note: you can get a pre-emptive strike; do so. Target time is about a minute and half without Gold Watch; you should kill him in 30 seconds.
Mark: Ugallu, 4x Munchkin. Reward: Rhodochrosite. Note: teleport to The Tsubaddran Highlands, then follow the red mark to find your target. The target time in this mission is extremely short like 30 seconds, without the Gold Watch because of the very weak enemies.
To get the pre-emptive strike, lure the enemies towards where you came from; lure them as far as possible, which means luring them towards the edge then get out of their line of action by jumping down to the lower platform, where you came from. When they turn around and walk back to their original position, jump back on their platform and surprise their back.
Mark: 3x Sahagin, 2x Airaune. Note: yet another mission with very short target time more than a minute this time, without Gold Watch ; pre-emptive strike not possible without Deceptisol. While you're here in Mah'habara, stop by the Waystone and repeat its mission if you missed the five-stars rating earlier it's quest Now you should be strong enough to get five stars.
Switch to 3x RAV and keep attacking the main enemy to kill him, while also heavily damaging the other minions with second- and third-grade spells. There is only one last mission for the "Circle of Death". This is your last warning: once the next one will be completed too, the Adamantoise and Adamantortoise enemies of the Steppe will be replaced by Long Gui and Shaolong Gui, and there is no turning back.
If you have to farm Platinum Ingots from Adamantortoises, do it now. Mark: Zirnitra, 3x Ceratoraptor. Reward: Energy Sash. Note: Zirnitra is your target, for the third time.
Good news is that the target time for this mission is high over 4 minutes without Gold Watch. The Ceratoraptors are too annoying to be left out there. Use Fang, Snow, Hope. Then summon Bahamuth, and immediately use Gestalt and Megaflare without even bothering to attack once before that -- Megaflare will insta-kill all the minions.
Map of the Missions. At this point there are just a few Cie'th missions left here and there in the Steppe. Since you are in "Zirnitra setup", let's start with the Cie'th mission located Southwest in the Steppe. Reward: Gale Ring. Note: yes, again If you open your in-game map you'll see four or five, in case you've activated mission 54 during your exploration Cie'th Stones shining.
Two are located in the North region; two are located Southeast. Let's do the easy ones first -- reach the one closer to the middle of the map. It's located up a tall rock, so you'll need to ride a Chocobo to reach it there is one available just near the rock.
Mark: Goblin Chieftain, 6x Goblin. Reward: Survivalist Catalog. Secondary reward: 4x Bomb Shell. Note: needless to say, the time will be extremely short.
You can get a pre-emptive strike lure them if necessary ; it's easier do to if you attempt it from South to North South being the direction you come from. Target time will be about one minute without Gold Watch. In case you're wondering why we didn't take on the previous mission earlier despite the "Catalog" unique reward The Survivalist Catalog just increases the Shrouds drop rate, but Shrouds are dropped at a ridiculously low rate when you get three or more stars in battle seriously, when's the last time you saw a Shroud in the Spoils?
Ergo, it's a waste of Accessory slot, and it's better to not equip it. Mark: 6x Adroa. Reward: 2x Frost Ring. Note: no need for pre-emptive strike or Haste. Next one is not far; look for the shiny one on your map to locate him Southeast region of the Steppe. Mark: Ambling Bellows. Reward: 4x Superconductor. Secondary reward: 3x Thrust Bearing. Note: extemely low target time about 30 seconds, without Gold Watch but he can be surprised with pre-emptive strike approach from the Waystone behind him; if he spots you, engage battle and Retry; you should succeed now, approaching him from behind and from the right.
This should be your last "mid-level" Class C Cie'th mission completed. If that's the case, you will unlock:. Xezat's Chalice Completed all mid-level Cie'th Stone missions. The next Cie'th Stone is located up a hill you can reach it without a Chocobo by climbing from North to South up the hill where it is in the middle of the "Oretoise zone", to the North.
A short scene with a Cactus will take place when you first get up here; this scene will activate one last Cie'th Stone to the far Northwest end of the Steppe not far from the Save Station closest to the exit. Nevermind that for now, and just start the quest from the Cie'th up this very hill.
Mark: 2x Sahagin, 4x Ceratoraptor. Note: pre-emptive strike is possible, but not necessary. Just one word: Megaflare. Head towards the exit of the Steppe. This will cost you about 7, Gil per Accessory, and therefore roughly 70, in total. Now you're decently protected against Fog. Mark: Gigantuar. Reward: Cactuar Doll. Secondary reward: 2x Chocobo Plume.
Note: target time simply out of any logic scheme -- just about 2 minutes without Gold Watch for an enemy that deals 10, HP of damage with every attack while also inflicting Pain, Fog, and Dispel with his attacks. There is really just one way to win this within the target time: Random Instant Chain. There are many different strategies that rely on different pieces of equipment and abilities, but basically all of them rely on the luck with Random Instant Chain.
The cheapest and easiest approach is the one described here. Hope would have been a great alternative to Fang here, but unfortunately he has less than 20, HP, which means he can only endure two attacks, whereas Fang can take three. This makes a big difference, especially because the silly AI tends to heal Hope only to 9,something HP instead of continuing relentless healing to bring him above 10, which would allow him to survive another attack.
Lightning's Army of One has 11 hits; each hit has 0. This is not too bad. You don't have time to try 20 times in the same battle though. With Gold Watch and the suggested weak weapons, you have about target time, so you can usually afford to try Army of One a few more times; I wouldn't risk if I were you though. After retries, statistically speaking you should be able to trigger Random Instant Chain within the turns you can afford to spend that's about one minute of real battle time.
To be clear, you want to use Paradigm [1] only to cast Haste on everyone. If more than one character has less than 10, HP, use [2] even if someone still needs Haste. Once this last quest target has been defeated, a series of Achievements will pop up. One for defeating Gigantuar:. Floraphobe Toppled a green terror and cut an oversized succulent down to size. Dorgann's Trophy Completed all high-level Cie'th Stone missions.
Galuf's Grail Completed all Cie'th Stone missions. With high stats and Gold Watch, mopping up the few that you may have missed shouldn't be hard at all. Long Gui is the blue-skinned version of the Adamantoise. Shaolong Gui is the blue-skinned version of the Adamanchelid. Defeating a Long Gui earns you an Achievement. Defeating a Shaolong Gui can earn you a Dark Matter ; this is their rare drop. Farming them is tough, but very possible, even without any kind of excellent gear.
Fully-developed Crystarium is pretty much required for both though, since many secondary roles will be involved. Set up Fang, Lightning, Snow. Equip them with your strongest weapons highest Strength available. A corrosive custard stands amidst the chaos, cleansing stagnation within the flow, ready to decide your fate.

Pop a Deceptisol for preemptive strike. Stagger targets and kill. Accursed Breath inflicts Curse but it's not really an issue. Putting in a Sentinel helps turn its attention away from your other two characters.
These things shouldn't be that big of a problem now as your characters are strong enough to absorb their attacks and dish out devastating amounts of damage. Four Verdelets await you here. Buff yourself with Shell and silence all the monsters with a shot of Fogga. Beat them all down however you please afterward. This one is joined by Microchus. A Saboteur should stick Deprotect and Deshell. Avoid casting water as Ochu absorbs it. It can also inflict Poison as well as summon additional Microchu minions with its Seed Dispenser attack.
There are only 2 Verdelets this time, but they will start summoning friends right away, so pop a Deceptisol and focus your attacks on the one that's calling for backup to interrupt it. Take care of the other one afterwards. Pop a Deceptisol to initiate a preemptive strike then stagger all 3 targets with a single Blitz attack or any other area spell. This creature is a powered up version of the Goblin Chieftain and it is joined by 4 Borgbears.
Cast Protect and Faith on yourself then spam the minions with fire spells until they stagger and die. The mark can cast buffs on its henchmen so watch out for that. He's accompanied by a variety of minions this time around -- Borgbears, Munchkin Maestro, and Goblin Chieftain. Here we have the mark and two Monstrous Flans. Cast Shell, Faith and Haste on yourself then toss a Librascope.
With Libra, your characters will automatically use the optimal magic spells on the flans. As for the custard, it loves to use Quake which hits your entire party. Stick Deshell on it with your Saboteur before spamming Thundaga while Faith is active. This thing has over 2. You'll need to cast weak on this guy as soon as possible. He'll throw out smaller enemies at you once you get his health to half.
When this happens take them out as soon as possible. Once his health is low, hit him with a lucky breaker and he should be near death. This technique is cheap but it works, especially if you're gunning for the l'Cie Paragon trophy. Though Veil and Haste are your top priority. Or better yet use those buff shrouds you have. Zinitra's spit inflicts Slow and Poison. Your Saboteurs should stick Deshell, Deprotect, and Imperil. Use Libra if you haven't already done so. This allows your charaters to automatically use the optimal spells against the boss.
The mark has an attack called Multicast that deals a ton of damage since it hits your entire party multiple times. This thing has over 2 million HPs and is resistant to everything at least until the shield comes off on stagger. If your characters are well-trained, a single Blitz attack from a Commando can kill all 3 Verdelets. I would recommend the use of buff shrouds here, both Fortisol and Aegisol.
Not only does this guy have high HP, he is impossible to stagger. He has resistance to both physical and magical damage, and is therefore incredibly hard to take down.
Use deprotect and slow on him from the start of the battle. This will at least lower his resistances a little bit. You have to defeat him in twenty minutes. If you can't do that, he will cast death on your entire party, bringing a swift end to a drawn out battle. Make sure your party is buffed before you bring his health below eighty percent.
Once his health dips below that magic number, he'll unleash a devastating attack and you have to be prepared. In order to protect yourself, make sure your party leader is a Sentinel when his health gets near the halfway mark. It's a slow process, but you should be able to take him down with enough time. Prepare for a long drawn-out battle; the mark you're about to face has 9,, HP! Shift to this paradigm whenever you need to recast debuffs on your target.
Bring in a Saboteur to stick Deshell, Deprotect, and Imperil. It's that thing again and it's accompanied by 4 Alraunes this time.
