A puppy exercise pen? Building one from grids designed for shelving? You will find examples of these at the end of this section. Obviously, if your rabbit is bigger, a larger cage is needed. If you have a baby bunny, think about how big he will get when he is grown up! DO NOT use aquariums or solid walled enclosures.

Placing their enclosure in an active or busy room of your home, like a kitchen or living room, will allow them to interact with you and really become a member of your family. Did you know a rabbit who stays outside in a hutch lives an average of two years, but an inside rabbit who is a member of the family lives years?
Outside rabits can easily get sick without anyone noticing. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. Spidercat What is a standard size rabbit? The majority of pet rabbits that arrive in the rescue systems that I work with are in the 5 to 7 pound ranges. I think it it safe to assume similar here.
Dwarfs are less than 4 pounds, and giants more than 8 as general rule of thumb. Add a comment. Active Oldest Votes. Improve this answer. I am not positive about the breed I am talking to a rescue and I am between two groups. One pair that has a male dutch and a female mix but she is bigger than the dutch. She appears to be a Flemish mix but since she was a rescue I cant say for sure. The other is a trio of siblings 1 male 2 females that I believe are mini Rex or a mix of.
The rescue says they are medium size rabbits but can say for sure on the breed since they were rescues just like the pair.
Akzholedent Well-Known Member. Pippi has this habit of trying to climb up her xpen The day we saw her hanging from the top bar, with an expression saying, "hey guys! Look at me! Most pens don't come with that covering, so I suggest, if you have a climber or Hopper, then use clothes pins and an old bed sheet or that light deer netting you can get at the hardware store , and pin the covering over the top of the xpen.
Pippi hasn't been compelled to climb since then. Note: Please don't mind Pippi's messy pen.. She's a bit of a hay thrower.. Petkeen is reader-supported.

Rabbits are built to run and jump, with their powerful legs making it possible to outrun predators — or even cars. The average bunny can run 25 to 45 mph. And when you factor in their size, that would be like a human being able to run over miles an hour! An exercise pen is a great way to provide an outlet for energy and get those fuzzy buns moving. In this article, we have compiled, tested, and given succinct reviews of eight different exercise pens.
Check Latest Price The Yaheetech pen has a lot to offer. We found it easy to assemble, fold, and move inside or outside, and even rearrange the shape and attach more panels. Add to that a strong and durable metal construction for added safety, and it is easy to see why we picked this for the best overall rabbit exercise pen. The best part about this pen is that it gives your rabbit more than the minimum square footage of exercise space, while also being tall enough to keep all but the most Olympic of bunny athletes safely inside.
The highest rabbit jump on record is 42 inches , so with 40 inches of pen, you can rest easy. Pros 28 square feet to run in Foldable, easily transportable Sturdy metal construction, rust-resistant Easily modified size and shape, no tools required 40 inches high, extremely low escape risk Indoor or outdoor use, and includes anchor stakes Easy to assemble, or enlarge Easy-access swing door Cons Mid to high price range 2.
We love the durable metal frame, how easy it is to take outside or set up indoors, and the extremely reasonable price. The main downside is that one set will only give your bunny 16 square feet of running room. We find that 24 square feet is a much more appropriate average for our rabbits.
Pros Easy to assemble, or enlarge Foldable, easily transportable 42 inches high, extremely low escape risk Sturdy metal construction, rust-resistant Easy-access swing door Inexpensive Cons Only 16 square feet 3. It gives your rabbit a whopping square feet to get their jump on and is one of the toughest and most durable exercise pens on the market.
However, our least favorite parts about the PetProgo pen are the high price and the fact that it is very heavy and unwieldy to move. If you have multiple bunnies and are willing to pay a little more for high-quality construction this might be perfect.
Pros square feet of running room Super strong construction, heavy-duty rust-resistant metal 32 inches high, low escape risk 2 easy-access swinging doors Foldable, easy to rearrange shape Cons High price range 89 pounds, hard to transport 4.
Petmate 8-Panels Bunny Exercise Pen. Check Latest Price This Petmate pen is a safe and sturdy option for a rabbit exercise pen. It is tall enough to prevent your bunny from leaping out, easy to assemble and move between indoors and outside, and has a convenient swinging door. On the upside, you only need to buy two sets to provide your rabbit with plenty of exercise room, but comparing that price to the larger and nicer pens left us skeptical.
Pros Sturdy metal construction Foldable, easily transported Easy to assemble, rearrange, enlarge 36 inches high, very low escape risk Cons Only 16 square feet Would need multiple sets Mid-range price 5.
